Western Christmas Chill: Ontario Freezes, Eastern Winter Storms Expected

The current winter weather forecast anticipates significant cold and snow for many regions in Western Canada during the Christmas season. In addition, northern Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador will face severe blizzard conditions extending until Boxing Day.

Western Canada Faces Relentless Cold

Environment Canada has issued warnings for a substantial winter storm affecting almost all of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as northeastern Quebec. Predicted snowfall amounts range between 30 and 50 centimetres, accompanied by wind gusts potentially reaching 120 km/h.

Cold Warnings Across the North

Freezing Rain and Snowfall Updates

Areas in southwestern Saskatchewan and southeastern Alberta are experiencing freezing rain today, though this is predicted to clear later. Meanwhile, snowfall in central Alberta is expected to diminish, but severe wind chills may reach as low as -40 degrees Celsius.

Blizzard Conditions in the Northwest Territories

Residents in Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, have been facing blizzard conditions, although these are forecasted to ease. Despite this, blowing snow will likely persist.
