Florida Man Kills Wife and Self After ‘Monday Night Football’ Argument

A tragic incident unfolded in Lakeland, Florida, where a man killed his wife and critically injured his stepdaughter following an argument provoked by a football game.
Fatal Argument Over Football
At approximately 11 p.m., Jason Kenney, 47, was watching the San Francisco 49ers compete against the Indianapolis Colts during “Monday Night Football.” His wife, Crystal Kenney, 38, expressed her desire to change the channel, leading to a heated dispute.
Authorities reported that Jason had been drinking that evening. During the argument, Crystal urged her 12-year-old son to seek help from a neighbor. As he was leaving, he heard a gunshot.
Aftermath of the Shooting
Responding deputies discovered Crystal Kenney’s lifeless body and her 13-year-old daughter critically wounded. The young girl had been shot in the face but is expected to survive. Remarkably, she had the strength to share her plea with authorities, stating, “I begged him, don’t shoot me.”
In an alarming turn, Jason Kenney fled the scene and called his sister in New York, confessing his actions. He ominously told her, “I’ve done something very, very bad.” He hinted at his intention to end his life to avoid imprisonment.
Investigation Reveals Disturbing Notes
Deputies later found Jason Kenney at his deceased father’s home. Upon arrival, they heard a single gunshot emanate from a shed on the property, where he had taken his own life. Additionally, investigators discovered an undated note from Crystal, in which she expressed concern about Jason’s drinking and drug use.
- Crystal’s note included warnings about his behavior.
- Details about Jason’s history of domestic violence were revealed, although no prior reports were documented.
Family members, including Crystal’s sister, Stephanie Rourie, expressed their grief and promised to honor her memory. Rourie stated, “You didn’t deserve this,” emphasizing her commitment to ensure Crystal’s children remember their mother’s love and strength.
