Mantua Township Couple Faces Charges in Child Sexual Assault Case

In a troubling case, a couple from Mantua Township, New Jersey, is facing serious charges related to the sexual assault of a minor. Michael Brown, aged 46, and Valerie Brown, 44, were arrested after the victim reported the alleged incidents to law enforcement. The assaults reportedly took place between 2018 and 2020, starting when the victim was just 13 years old.

Details of the Allegations

According to investigators, the abuse commenced with inappropriate touching and escalated over time. Law enforcement asserts that Michael Brown would pick the victim up from school and transport her to a hotel, where sexual assaults allegedly occurred. The victim has indicated that these assaults took place in various locations, including a motel and streets in Mantua and nearby Woodbury.

Roles of the Suspects

Valerie Brown was allegedly aware of her husband’s actions. She is charged with third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with evidence. Michael Brown faces several serious charges:

  • Second-degree sexual assault of a minor aged 13 to 16
  • Third-degree endangering the welfare of a child
  • Fourth-degree criminal sexual contact
