Lake Oswego High School Counselor Investigated After Principal’s Sudden Retirement

A counselor from Lakeridge High School is currently under investigation by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. Recently, Christopher Keller was one of four counselors at the school. However, an assistant principal has now taken over his student assignments.
Details of the Investigation
The investigation, first reported by The Oregonian, involves serious allegations. Keller is represented by Portland criminal defense attorney Mark Cogan, who urges caution, stating that “Our client has not been formally charged with anything.” Cogan further emphasized Keller’s presumption of innocence.
Incident Reports and Findings
The Lake Oswego Police Department provided an incident report from November, which mentioned “info – poss child abuse” as the basis for concern. Most of the report’s details are redacted, adhering to privacy regulations.
Lake Oswego School District Response
- The Lake Oswego School District is currently reviewing a request for public records pertaining to incidents involving their staff.
- The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details, focusing on maintaining the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
- In situations involving potential misconduct with children, the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) would typically manage these complaints.
According to ODHS Press Secretary Jake Sunderland, the agency “has received no allegations of child abuse that met the criteria for investigation.” It is important to note that ODHS does not oversee cases involving educator misconduct related to students aged 18 or older.
Changes in School Leadership
Speculation has arisen following the announcement of Lakeridge principal Desiree Fisher’s retirement at the end of this month. Superintendent Jennifer Schiele addressed these rumors in a message to staff, students, and families. She referenced safety concerns but refrained from providing additional details.
Commitment to Safety and Standards
Schiele assured all stakeholders that student safety is paramount. She stated, “All reported concerns have been taken seriously, thoroughly investigated by our district and law enforcement, and addressed promptly and appropriately.” Furthermore, there is an investigation involving Fisher by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.
The Lake Oswego community remains vigilant as the investigations unfold, prioritizing student safety and institutional integrity.
