Minnesota Wild Calls Up Defenseman David Špaček from Iowa

The Minnesota Wild have announced the recall of defenseman David Špaček from the Iowa Wild, an American Hockey League affiliate. This decision was made by Bill Guerin, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the Wild. In a corresponding move, defenseman Daemon Hunt has been placed on Injured Reserve.

David Špaček’s Performance and Background

David Špaček, 22 years old, has been impressive in his season with Iowa. He has accumulated 11 assists in 26 games this season, placing him tied for first on the team in assists. Špaček also ranks fourth in total points with 43 shots and six penalty minutes.

This season, Špaček stands at 6 feet and weighs 190 pounds. He recorded a notable 31 points during the 2024-25 AHL season, contributing four goals and 27 assists over 72 games. He led the team with 18 power play assists, which highlights his valuable skill set on special teams.

Career Statistics and International Experience

Over three seasons (2023-2026) in the AHL, Špaček has achieved a total of 54 points, scoring seven goals and making 47 assists in 159 games. His ability to contribute defensively is notable, with 58 penalty minutes and 233 shots during that time.

Špaček also has experience on the international stage, having represented Czechia in several tournaments. His accomplishments include:

  • Two assists in eight games at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
