Zarah Sultana Vows Vigil Outside Prison for Hunger Striker’s Treatment

Zarah Sultana, an MP for Your Party, has pledged to remain at HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey, until a young activist on a hunger strike is transferred to the hospital. The activist, Qesser Zuhrah, is in urgent need of medical treatment, prompting Sultana’s determined vigil outside the prison.

Sultana’s Commitment to Qesser Zuhrah

Since 3 AM on Wednesday, Sultana has been camped outside the prison. She has actively shared her experiences on social media, providing updates, photographs, and videos to draw attention to the situation. Her commitment is clear: she will stay until action is taken.

Call for Government Action

Sultana has reached out to key officials, including David Lammy, the Justice Secretary, and Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary. She urged them to ensure Qesser is granted the medical attention she requires. In her messages on social media, Sultana emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that if Qesser were to die, it would be the responsibility of government officials.

Risk of Death

  • Qesser Zuhrah, aged 20, is currently on hunger strike.
  • Sultana warned there is a risk of death if medical help is delayed.

Support from Activists

In a show of solidarity, Sultana joined forces with 12 other activists, many of whom wore traditional keffiyehs. Together, they demand an ambulance transfer to provide Qesser with the emergency healthcare she desperately needs.

The situation highlights the urgent need for intervention from health and justice authorities in the treatment of those in custody. As the vigil continues, the focus remains on Qesser’s health and the accountability of those in power.
