Severe Weather Forces School Delays, Road Closures in Oregon

Severe weather has led to significant disruptions across Oregon, resulting in school delays and road closures. Various school districts are adjusting their schedules in response to these challenging conditions.
School Delays across Oregon
Several school districts have announced late start times. The following districts are affected:
- Lincoln County School District: Two-hour delay affecting EI, Siletz Valley School, and Eddyville Charter School.
- Elkton School District: Two-hour delay due to a power outage.
- McKenzie School District (Lane County): Closed because of a highway closure and power outages.
- Crow-Applegate-Lorane School District: Two-hour delay with no before school care or hot breakfast available.
- Dorena Elementary: Two-hour delay due to power interruption.
- Philomath School District: Blodgett Elementary on a two-hour delay; other schools are opening on schedule.
- Staff in Lincoln County, Sweet Home, Santiam Canyon, and Philomath should check with supervisors about delays.
Road Closures Due to Severe Weather
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has reported that high winds and heavy rain are impacting roads, particularly on the coast and in the Willamette Valley. Key highway closures include:
- OR 22: Closed two miles west of Detroit at milepost 49.
- OR 126: Closed five miles east of Vida between milepost 31 and 44.
- U.S. 20: Closed at Shea Viewpoint between milepost 31 and 71.
- OR 214: Closed four miles south of Woodburn at milepost 41.
These closures are primarily caused by downed trees and power lines. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes and remain vigilant.
Challenges on Mountain Passes
In southwest Oregon, mountain passes are also facing closures. Key areas include:
- High Cascades Pass: Closed on OR 138 from west of Toketee to the U.S. 97 junction.
- OR 62: Closed between Prospect and east of Union Creek.
- OR 230: Closed from Union Creek to OR 138 (Diamond Lake Junction).
Officials have not provided an estimate for reopening these highways. Travelers should prepare for ongoing delays and potential closures across all mountain passes in southern Oregon.
