Uber Passenger Dies in North Philadelphia Crash During Suspect’s Police Chase

In a tragic incident in North Philadelphia, an Uber passenger lost her life during a police pursuit. The accident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of 9th Street and Girard Avenue.
Details of the Incident
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the crash involved a suspect fleeing from the law. Joseph Cini, a 35-year-old man, was the subject of a warrant related to domestic assault. Officers were attempting to serve this warrant on the 900 block of North Watts Street when Cini escaped in a Nissan Maxima.
As Cini fled, he was traveling eastbound on Girard Avenue when he collided with a red Jeep Patriot. This vehicle was carrying a 51-year-old male Uber driver and a 63-year-old female passenger.
Casualties and Injuries
- The Uber driver sustained injuries and was transported to Temple University Hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition.
- Tragically, the 63-year-old passenger died at the scene of the accident.
Aftermath of the Crash
Following the collision, Joseph Cini fled the scene on foot, heading westbound on 8th Street. Philadelphia authorities have launched an investigation to locate him.
