Evri Couriers Boost Wages by Leaving Parcels at Doorsteps

Evri, previously known as Hermes UK, has seen significant financial growth and made headlines recently for issues surrounding their delivery service. The company was acquired by Apollo Global Management last year and has capitalized on its operations.
Financial Success Amidst Delivery Issues
In the financial year 2023-24, Evri reported a pre-tax profit of nearly £120 million, nearly doubling from the previous year. Despite this financial success, concerns have been raised by couriers regarding wage practices.
Courier Wages and Customer Complaints
Several couriers have voiced their frustrations about compensation, alleging that they are being taken advantage of as the company flourishes. A courier expressed discontent, stating, “I think Evri are making a fortune off the couriers’ backs.”
Local Incidents Lead to Community Action
In Hampshire, local residents Becky and Jonathan took action regarding their missing parcels. Observing numerous comments about undelivered items on a community Facebook group, Becky created a spreadsheet to document these issues.
- Approximately 90 incidents of missing parcels were reported to the police.
- A suspect was arrested in connection with the incidents but was not charged.
Representatives from Evri stated the company treats these issues seriously, emphasizing that courier performance is monitored in real-time with mandatory photographic proof for each delivery.
Resolution for Affected Customers
In Becky’s case, she received a refund for her missing items, allowing her to purchase a new Barbie doll. Jonathan successfully had his tools replaced by the seller.
Evri faces ongoing scrutiny as it balances financial success with the challenges posed by customer service and courier treatment. As the company navigates these issues, community responses and individual actions highlight the need for improvements in service delivery.
