Impaired Driver Strikes Indiana Trooper for Third Time Near Indianapolis

An Indiana State Trooper has been struck by an impaired driver for the third time during his career. This recent incident occurred on eastbound I-465 near Allisonville Road in Indianapolis.

Incident Details

Trooper Keith Martin was performing his duties by blocking a lane in response to a jackknifed semi-truck. While he was on the scene, a pick-up truck rear-ended him. The collision resulted in Trooper Martin sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Involvement of Other Personnel

At the scene of the accident, off-duty Fortville Police Officer Lee Carnish was present. While his vehicle incurred damage, he fortunately did not sustain any injuries.

Arrest and Charges

  • The driver of the pick-up truck has been identified as Juan Cuatlacuatl, 21, from Indianapolis.
  • Cuatlacuatl was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, which resulted in injury to Trooper Martin.

Frequency of Incidents

This incident marks the third time in four years that Trooper Martin has been struck by an impaired driver. Such repeated occurrences highlight the dangers faced by first responders while executing their duties. Lt. Josh Watson, the ISP Indianapolis District Commander, emphasized the need for drivers to be more cautious. He urged motorists to prioritize the safety of those who serve on the front lines.
