WVU Offers Flexibility for Finals Week Amid Winter Weather Concerns

West Virginia University (WVU) is taking measures to ensure student and employee safety during finals week, which begins on December 15, 2023. Following a winter storm, the Morgantown campus is adjusting operations to address travel concerns due to adverse weather conditions.

Flexibility for Finals Week Amid Weather Concerns

WVU officials have encouraged instructors and supervisors to provide flexibility in their scheduling. Students who are unable to attend in-person finals should communicate with their instructors to arrange alternatives. Final exams are set to start at 8 a.m. on December 15 and will continue through December 19.

Campus Operations and Services

  • Regular campus operations will proceed on December 15.
  • Some services may be limited due to ongoing winter weather.

The Talent and Culture department has suggested that supervisors permit remote work for hybrid employees facing travel challenges. Employees must coordinate their work arrangements directly with their supervisors.

For those involved in patient care, WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff, and students are advised to consult their dean or clinic manager regarding in-person work and testing obligations.

Communication of Updates

The university will provide ongoing updates about scheduling and weather conditions through multiple channels, including:

  • WVU Safety Notification System
  • MIX email and dedicated student/faculty staff resources
  • Social media platforms such as X and Instagram

It is important to note that decisions affecting WVU Institute of Technology and WVU Potomac State College will be made based on local weather conditions. Lastly, WVU Extension will adhere to its own policy regarding inclement weather.

For further updates and information, students and staff are encouraged to stay connected through various communication platforms. WVU remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its community during this challenging winter season.
