Obituary: Cason R. “Dick” Whitehurst of Reedsburg, WI Passes Away

Cason R. “Dick” Whitehurst, a beloved resident of Reedsburg, WI, passed away at the age of 76 on December 10, 2025. He died peacefully at home in Ironton, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Early Life and Family

Born on August 1, 1949, in Norfolk, VA, Dick was the son of Richard Cason and Rosemary (Gardner) Whitehurst. His family relocated to Wonewoc when he was an infant, and he spent the majority of his life in the Reedsburg area.

On October 18, 1969, Dick married Joan R. Jensen. Their union was blessed with three children: Patrick, Tressa, and Cason “Casey” Whitehurst. A long-time member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, Dick was known for his welcoming spirit.

A Life Well Lived

Described as the life of the party, Dick made friends quickly and maintained an active social life centered around his family. He was a dedicated husband and a loving father who took great pride in his eleven grandchildren. He made it a priority to attend their events, celebrating their achievements with joy.

His love for life was evident in everything he did. He approached each day with gratitude and enthusiasm.

Survived By

He is survived by his wife Joan, their three children, and eleven grandchildren:

  • Tressa (Matthew) Bauer of Reedsburg
  • Cason “Casey” (Gretchen) Whitehurst of Wisconsin Dells

Dick is also survived by his brother Donald (Rosanna Armson) Whitehurst of Minneapolis and sister Alice (Gary) Antonetti of Evansville, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial Service

A memorial service honoring Cason R. “Dick” Whitehurst will be held on December 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. Pastor Paul Crolius will officiate the service. Visitation will occur from 10:00 AM until the service begins. A private family burial will follow at Resting Green Cemetery in Ironton.

The family has entrusted arrangements to the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg. While they mourn his passing, they find solace in the cherished memories they created together.
