Detroit Man Charged with Attempted Murder of ATF Agents, Carjacking

A Detroit resident, Terrance Markyce Davis, has been indicted on serious federal charges following a violent altercation with law enforcement. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan announced the indictment, which primarily includes attempted murder of federal agents and carjacking.
Charges Against Davis
The 33-year-old faces several charges including:
- One count of unlawful transport of firearms
- One count of carjacking
- One count of assaulting an officer
- One count of attempted murder
- Three counts of committing a violent crime
Timeline of Events
Between November 5 and November 13, 2023, Davis engaged in a series of violent incidents in Detroit. During this time, he fired shots into various homes and vehicles, resulting in serious injuries to one individual.
On November 14, special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) secured an arrest warrant for Davis, linking him to a shooting incident where he was found in possession of ammunition.
Chase and Shootout
When approached by ATF agents, Davis fled the scene. He carjacked an individual and exchanged gunfire with law enforcement. The Michigan State Police Troopers responded by disabling the stolen vehicle that Davis was operating.
Following the vehicle incident, Davis fled on foot, still armed. During the apprehension attempt, he was shot by Detroit Police Officers and subsequently taken into custody.
Ballistics Evidence
Preliminary ballistic tests revealed that the firearm Davis was carrying while evading police matched the weapon used in the earlier shootings as well as during the incident involving the ATF agents.
Law Enforcement Statements
The U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon described Davis as an “agent of chaos,” emphasizing the threat he posed to community safety. ATF Special Agent in Charge James Deir highlighted the serious nature of Davis’s actions and the agency’s commitment to addressing such violent crime.
This case involves collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the ATF, the Detroit Police Department, and the Michigan State Police, showcasing a unified approach to tackling violent crime in the region.
