In an impressive showcase at the Grant Thornton Invitational, Charley Hull, Michael Brennan, Lexi Thompson, and Wyndham Clark set a tournament record by shooting a remarkable 17-under par 55. This performance marked a new high score for the mixed-team event, which has been held for three years at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
Record-Setting Performance
Both teams composed of Hull-Brennan and Thompson-Clark demonstrated exceptional skill during Friday’s scramble format. Each team made only three pars, capitalizing on perfect scoring conditions.

Team Dynamics
Michael Brennan, who recently joined the PGA Tour of Americas, filled in for injured Daniel Berger. He and Hull displayed incredible teamwork, managing 13 consecutive holes with either a birdie or an eagle.
Thompson and Clark mirrored this performance by securing birdies or eagles on nine of their last ten holes, with the exception of the par-3 16th.
Players’ Reactions
Charley Hull expressed surprise at their performance, admitting she had been working on her swing and felt nervous prior to the round. “It worked out pretty well,” she noted after their record-setting achievement.
Describing their synergy, Clark added, “She hits it really far off the tee. If one of us is in play, we’re significantly past the competitors and we have our advantage there.”
Upcoming Rounds
As the tournament progresses, the competition will continue with an alternate shot format on Saturday—a challenge as players take turns hitting the same ball. The final round on Sunday will feature a modified fourballs format.
- Highlights for Saturday: Foursomes format
