Four Football Players Named to PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team

Four standout football players from Villanova University have been recognized in this year’s PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team. Temi Ajirotutu, Luke Colella, Shane Hartzell, and Pat McQuaide were celebrated for their exceptional performance both on the field and in academics.
Villanova’s Academic Honors
This marks the 18th consecutive year that multiple Wildcats have earned this prestigious honor. Villanova has maintained a streak of having at least one player recognized since the awards began in 2005. This year, the university ties for second place for the most selections from a single institution.
Highlighting the Players
- Shane Hartzell: A repeat unanimous selection, Hartzell excels as a First Team All-CAA linebacker and team leader in tackles, tackles for loss (TFLs), sacks, and hurries. He has an impressive GPA of 3.89 in his graduate program and has been recognized as a Buck Buchanan award finalist and a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy.
- Temi Ajirotutu: Ajirotutu earned recognition for the first time, achieving First Team All-CAA status. As a team captain, he started all 13 games at left guard and maintains a GPA of 3.54 in his master’s degree in counseling.
- Luke Colella: In his inaugural year on the Main Line after transferring from Princeton, Colella has made a significant impact. He was named Second Team All-CAA, is Villanova’s leading receiver with 68 receptions, and holds a GPA of 3.67.
- Pat McQuaide: McQuaide has earned an All-CAA Honorable Mention. He has thrown for over 2,700 yards and 23 touchdowns, maintaining a GPA of 3.80 in his education master’s program.
Upcoming NCAA Quarterfinal Matchup
The Wildcats, including these four honorees, are set to compete in the NCAA quarterfinals. They will face Tarleton State on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Eastern in Stephenville, Texas. This significant matchup underscores the dual commitment of these student-athletes to both their sport and their education.
