$4B MLB Team Eyes Mets’ $11.3M Pitcher as Kodai Senga Decision Nears

The New York Mets are currently evaluating a crucial decision involving right-handed pitcher Kodai Senga. Despite Senga’s preference to remain with the Mets, the franchise is contemplating a trade, influenced by his injury history and a challenging finish to the 2025 season, where he posted a 3.02 ERA. This potential move raises questions about the Mets’ strategy moving forward.
$4 Billion MLB Team Eyes Mets’ $11.3M Pitcher
As speculation mounts regarding Senga’s future, the San Francisco Giants have emerged as a possible player in this scenario. They are reportedly interested in reacquiring pitcher Tyler Rogers, who the Mets acquired from the Giants last season.
Giants Interested in Tyler Rogers
- Rogers is currently a free agent after being traded to the Mets.
- He has a career ERA of 2.76 over seven seasons.
- Rogers did not allow any home runs during his time with the Mets.
The Giants, valued at $4 billion, are looking to bolster their pitching lineup for the upcoming season. They traded Rogers to the Mets last July in exchange for prospects Jose Butto and Blade Tidwell, along with outfielder Drew Gilbert. At the time, the Giants were struggling, having lost 12 out of 14 games.
Mets’ Bullpen Strategies
The Mets recently lost pitcher Ryan Helsley, who joined the Baltimore Orioles. As they consider moving away from Senga and possibly letting Rogers go, the Mets are not standing still in their quest to upgrade their bullpen. Reports indicate they have reached out to two premier relief pitchers: Robert Suarez and Pete Fairbanks.
- Suarez has established himself as a top closer for the Padres, with 76 saves and a 2.87 ERA since taking over in 2024.
- Fairbanks has been consistently effective, collecting 75 saves with a 2.83 ERA over the past three seasons.
This focus on acquiring Suarez and Fairbanks suggests the Mets may not prioritize re-signing Rogers. If this is the case, the Giants might have a clear path to bringing Rogers back, allowing them to fill a critical role in their bullpen as they prepare for the next season.
