An Giang Erosion: 106 Incidents Cause 12 Billion Dong in Damages

In An Giang, significant erosion incidents continue to impact the local community and environment. In 2025, there were 106 reported cases of erosion, resulting in damages estimated at 12 billion VND.

The erosion affected over 5 kilometers of riverbanks, canals, and ditches, forcing 72 households to evacuate. Of these, nine homes were completely destroyed, while an additional thirteen suffered partial collapses into the waterways.
Major Erosion Events
One notable incident occurred on September 4 at 1 AM. This event took place along a road from the Út Na sluice to the Đầu Cồn market. The erosion stretched 100 meters long and plunged 25 meters into the riverbank. It resulted in the total collapse of two houses into the river.
Government Initiatives
The Department of Agriculture and Environment in An Giang, led by Deputy Director Võ Văn Lên, is actively addressing these erosion challenges. They are advising the provincial government to seek funding for protective infrastructure.
