Meteorology Warns of Nighttime Chill and Coastal Rainfall

Meteorologists have issued a warning regarding nighttime chill and coastal rainfall as Egypt transitions from autumn to winter. The official start of winter is on December 21, marking a significant shift in weather patterns.

Significant Weather Changes in Egypt

Dr. Mahmoud Al-Qiati, a member of the media center at the Meteorological Authority, highlighted recent changes in Egypt’s weather. Over the past couple of days, a high-level atmospheric disturbance has led to unstable weather conditions. This has resulted in the formation of lower clouds, bringing rain to the northern coasts, the Nile Delta, Cairo, and parts of Upper Egypt.

Continued Rainfall and Temperature Fluctuations

The influence of the weather disturbance is expected to persist, although its intensity has diminished as it moves eastward toward the Levant region. Nevertheless, the outskirts of this system will continue to affect Egypt’s northern coasts. Al-Qiati noted that chances for rainfall remain on the northern coast and some regions of the Nile Delta.

  • Daytime temperatures in Cairo range between 19 and 20 degrees Celsius.
  • Nighttime temperatures may drop to between 11 and 12 degrees Celsius.
  • In some desert and Upper Egyptian areas, temperatures could fall below 10 degrees Celsius.

Wind Activity and Its Effects

Dr. Al-Qiati also reported ongoing wind activity across various regions, including Cairo and the northern coast. This may lead to light dust and increased wave heights along the northwestern shores such as Alexandria and Matrouh.

Rainfall Forecast for Today

The likelihood of rainfall today is classified as light to moderate on the northern coast and parts of the Nile Delta. As evening approaches, these showers may intensify and extend to include major cities like Cairo and those along the Suez Canal and Upper Egypt. Meanwhile, the chance of rain is expected to gradually decrease in southern regions.
