Winter Storm Halts School Bus Services and Classes in Southern Manitoba

Winter storm conditions have significantly disrupted education in southern Manitoba, leading to widespread school cancellations. An Alberta clipper storm swept into southwestern Manitoba on Tuesday, resulting in hazardous road conditions that prompted numerous school divisions to close.

School Closures Due to Winter Storm

On Wednesday, the following school divisions announced closures:

  • Fort La Bosse
  • Garden Valley
  • Prairie Spirit
  • Southwest Horizon
  • Turtle Mountain

For schools remaining open, such as those in the Beautiful Plains School Division and the Rolling River School Division, bus services have been suspended due to safety concerns. Notably, while Rolling River’s colony schools are closed, community schools within the division are still operational.

Brandon School Division Updates

The Brandon School Division is operating buses within the city limits, but transportation outside the city is halted. Schools like Alexander and O’Kelly remain open, whereas Spring Valley School will not operate.

Attendance is left to parental discretion for students requiring travel. As the storm continues to affect road safety, communities are encouraged to prioritize safety when deciding on school attendance.

These weather-related disruptions underscore the ongoing challenges posed by winter storms in the region. School divisions are closely monitoring conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
