Moscow: New US Security Strategy Aligns with Russian Vision

As the European Union continues negotiations with the Trump administration regarding a peace agreement for Ukraine, key officials have highlighted their strong connection with the United States. They also raised concerns about aspects of the proposed security strategy.
Moscow: New US Security Strategy Aligns with Russian Vision
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul remarked on Friday that the US remains Germany’s most important ally within NATO. However, he expressed that the strategy should focus on security policy rather than issues of freedom of speech and societal organization.
Statements from European Leaders
In a social media message directed at his American counterparts, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized Europe’s status as a close ally of the US. He reminded them that together, they face common adversaries.
- Tusk’s statement: “Europe is your closest ally, not your problem.”
- He advocated for a reasonable approach to shared security.
- Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt critiqued the strategy as aligning with far-right ideologies.
Concerns Over Far-Right Connections
The Trump administration’s ties with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, labeled as extreme by German intelligence, raised alarms. Critics argue this connection undermines democratic principles.
Security Initiatives and Warnings from Congress
The “America First” strategy outlines military intentions, including targeting drug trafficking in the Caribbean and potential military involvement in Venezuela. Additionally, it calls for increased defense expenditures from key allies such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Taiwan.
Democratic representatives in Congress expressed that this strategy could jeopardize international relations. Colorado Representative Jason Crow, a member of the House Intelligence and Armed Services Committees, labeled the plan as potentially “catastrophic for America’s standing globally.” Similarly, New York Representative Gregory Meeks criticized the strategy for dismissing decades of value-driven US leadership.
