Marjorie Taylor Greene Criticizes Trump’s Policies as Not America First

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has recently voiced strong criticisms of former President Donald Trump, asserting that he has abandoned key aspects of his “America First” agenda. Greene, who previously aligned with Trump 98% of the time, expressed her disappointments in a recent interview with 60 Minutes.

Key Criticisms of Trump’s Policies

Greene specifically highlighted issues around domestic policies, affordability, and foreign affairs as areas where she feels Trump has faltered. She claims that Trump has prioritized corporate interests over the needs of his base, particularly in relation to the pharmaceutical and cryptocurrency industries. Greene stated:

  • “We want to see action on areas for the American people, not for the major industries and the big donors.”

Affordability as a Major Concern

While Trump labeled affordability a “hoax” propagated by Democrats, Greene argues it remains a pressing issue for many Americans. This concern led her to support extending health care subsidies during the government shutdown, a move she described as unanticipated, considering her usual Republican stance.

Controversial Positions on Foreign Affairs

Greene has taken bold stances on sensitive topics such as the Gaza conflict, labeling it a “genocide.” Furthermore, she voted against the Antisemitism Awareness Act, expressing frustration over what she perceives as performative gestures in Congress concerning antisemitism. She commented on the pressure that Congress members face, suggesting they are intimidated by potential backlash from Trump’s followers.

Contention Over Jeffrey Epstein Files

In another area of contention, Greene shared that her support for the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein upset Trump. She emphasized the necessity of giving a voice to survivors who suffered from Epstein’s actions.

Threats and Safety Concerns

Following Trump’s public criticism of Greene, labeling her a “lunatic” and a “traitor,” she received numerous death threats. She particularly noted threats directed at her son, which included references to her as “Marjorie Traitor Greene.” Greene relayed her concerns to Trump and Vice President JD Vance, but described the responses as lacking support.

Future Plans and Political Ambitions

Despite the ongoing fallout with Trump, Greene’s popularity in her Georgia district appears unchanged. She dismissed speculations about running for president or other political offices, stating she has no desire for such roles. Greene remarked, “I’m not your politician with a whole itinerary of plans or political ambitions.” Her comments underscore her uncertain future as she navigates her relationship with Trump and the Republican Party.
