Huskies to Battle Army at Wasabi Fenway Bowl

The UConn Huskies return to Boston for the fourth annual Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Saturday, December 27. They will face the Army West Point Black Knights at the historic Fenway Park. The game is set to kick off at 2:15 PM and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Huskies’ Journey to the Bowl

This marks the Huskies’ second consecutive season in a bowl game. Interim head coach Gordon Sammis expressed excitement about returning to Fenway Park, where UConn had a memorable experience last year. They secured a win against North Carolina in the 2024 Fenway Bowl, contributing to a record attendance. The team’s performance this season has set them up for a potential 10-win achievement, a milestone accomplished only once before in the program’s history (1998).

Key Player Performances

The Huskies enter the game with a strong 9-3 record. This year’s performance has been highlighted by significant victories over ACC Champion Duke and Boston College. They stand as one of only two teams in the nation that have not lost a game in regulation this season.

  • Joe Fagnano: Quarterback with impressive stats, named Offensive MVP in the last bowl.
  • Skyler Bell: Wide receiver, a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, first UConn player since 2005 to be invited to the Senior Bowl.
  • Cam Edwards: Running back contributing to the team’s offensive success.

This trio has made history, becoming the first in the program to surpass 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 yards receiving and rushing in the same season. Their combined efforts have led UConn to achieve the most wins in back-to-back seasons in the program’s history.

Army West Point’s Credentials

The Army Black Knights hold a 6-4 record this season. They will be competing in their 12th bowl game, and under head coach Jeff Monken, they have a favorable postseason record of 5-1. Last season, Army won the Independence Bowl against Louisiana Tech with a score of 27-6.

Upcoming Matchup Analysis

As UConn aims for its 10th victory, the Huskies will need to leverage their offensive depth against Army’s defense. This matchup is poised to be a crucial moment for both teams as they look to solidify their legacies in college football.
