The tourism sector in Hanoi is ramping up efforts to attract international visitors, especially to its suburban areas. Kim Anh: A Suburban Tourism Gem

Kim Anh, located within Hanoi’s metropolitan area, boasts a rich ecological landscape. With sprawling forests and diverse mountain scenery, it covers over 52 square kilometers and is home to roughly 49,000 residents. The region is enriched with more than 60 historical sites and 30 traditional festivals, making it an ideal location for cultural and ecological tourism.

    • A variety of outdoor activities, including hiking and community-based tourism
  • Strategic Goals:
    • Targeting international visitors and expatriates residing in Hanoi

Local leaders are keen to enhance the area’s appeal, aiming for Kim Anh to become a key eco-tourism destination by 2025. Initiatives propose creating packages like “Forest & Culture” and special tours for expatriates to promote the area’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Challenges and Opportunities

Experts noted significant opportunities for developing a sustainable tourism model in Kim Anh. The community currently hosts over 130 lodging facilities, contributing to its readiness for increased tourism flows. However, better management of natural resources and the preservation of forests are essential to support growth. A comprehensive approach is necessary to ensure safety and environmental sustainability for incoming visitors.

Thu Lam: Tapping into Heritage Tourism

Similarly, Thu Lam is positioned to capitalize on its rich cultural heritage. With 96 historical sites and 31 annual festivals, Thu Lam offers a plethora of cultural experiences. The area is just 26 kilometers from Noi Bai Airport, making it conveniently designed for international tourists.

    • Establishing artistic installations related to local traditions

Plans to develop a combination of cultural, culinary, and agricultural tourism are in motion. Experts emphasize the need for modern storytelling methods to connect local heritage with the interests of international visitors.

Phu Dong: A Cultural and Spiritual Hub

Located to the east of Hanoi, Phu Dong is also receiving attention as a key tourism destination. Focused on cultural and spiritual tourism, Phu Dong is developing various tourism products linked to traditional crafts and agricultural practices.

A Unified Vision for Tourism Growth

As part of a broader strategy, the Hanoi Department of Tourism encourages synergy between local governments and tourism businesses. This cooperation is crucial for enhancing infrastructure and service standards across these regions. Authorities believe that promoting these suburbs’ cultural richness and natural beauty will help establish them as international tourist hotspots by 2030.

By focusing on sustainable practices, preserving heritage, and creating high-quality tourism products, Kim Anh, Thu Lam, and Phu Dong are set to transform into significant cultural and ecological gateways, attracting a diverse range of international tourists to explore the essence of Hanoi.
