The 2025 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) commenced at the Thomas & Mack Center, celebrating its 40th anniversary at this iconic venue. The event marked the triumphant return of eight-time world champion Stetson Wright, who dominated the opening round.

Wright excelled in both saddle bronc riding and bull riding during the first round. He entered the 2025 NFR leading both the all-around and bull riding competitions, having previously missed the 2024 season due to an injury. On opening night, Wright rode “403 Renegade” to a remarkable 90-point score in saddle bronc riding. He followed this up with an impressive 89.5 points on Powder River Rodeo’s “Big Shasta” in bull riding.

Five-time world champion Tyler Waguespack showcased his skills in steer wrestling with a swift 4.0-second run, claiming the Round One win in his 11th NFR qualification.
Team roping witnessed a new duo triumphing as Lightning Aguilera and Kaden Profili teamed up for an identical 4.0-second run to clinch the victory.
Notable Performances
- Shad Mayfield impressed in tie-down roping with a 6.8-second run, edging closer to the championship standings.
- Kassie Mowry, the reigning barrel racing world champion, continued her reign with a stellar performance. She and her horse “Will” recorded a time of 13.66 seconds.
