Rev. Franklin Graham Gifts New Homes to Kentucky Flood Survivors for Christmas

In an inspiring event at a mountaintop in eastern Kentucky, Rev. Franklin Graham dedicated 18 newly built homes for families affected by the devastating floods of 2022. This initiative, organized by Samaritan’s Purse, marked a significant moment of hope for survivors who have endured hardship for years.
Rev. Franklin Graham’s Dedication Ceremony
Rev. Franklin Graham led the dedication ceremony in the snow, expressing gratitude for the community’s support in rebuilding. “Terrible floods here a few years ago just destroyed hundreds of homes. Well, today we are dedicating 18 houses that are finished and ready for people to move in,” he stated in a video message.
The Chestnut Ridge Subdivision
The new Chestnut Ridge subdivision features 57 lots, with the 18 completed homes representing a new beginning for the residents. Graham emphasized how partnerships contributed to the success of this project, stating, “These people are going to be in their homes for Christmas.”
- The homes consist of two, three, and four bedrooms.
- One family, with ten children, received the only five-bedroom house.
- Survivors previously lived in cramped conditions, often in campers, after losing their homes.
Joy and Gratitude Among Recipients
Many families expressed overwhelming joy upon entering their new residences. Lora Honeycutt shared her emotional experience, noting, “These are happy tears.” For Paul Johnson, the dedication changed his life; his new permanent address allows him to rejoin the lung transplant list after being removed due to displacement.
Community Support and Contributions
Former U.S. Ambassador Kelly Craft and her husband, Joe, donated the land for the subdivision. Rev. Graham also acknowledged the contributions of volunteers, including employees from the local Lowe’s store in Hazard, Kentucky.
Samaritan’s Purse Efforts in Kentucky
To date, Samaritan’s Purse has built nearly 100 homes throughout Kentucky, aiding communities impacted by disasters, including floods and tornadoes. The organization continues to provide relief efforts in other affected areas, such as North Carolina, following Hurricane Helene.
As families celebrate the holiday season in their new homes, Rev. Graham prayed for their continued healing and praised the collective effort that made this project a reality. The dedication of the new homes symbolizes not just shelter but a renewed hope for a better future.
