Griffin III expressed confidence in Briles’ ability to excel at UNT. He stated, “When you go to North Texas, they are expecting someone to come in and score points just like Eric Morris did, and I think Kendal [Briles] is the right guy to make that happen.”
Kendal Briles’ Career Background
Briles is currently in his third year as the offensive coordinator, associate head coach, and quarterbacks coach at TCU. His versatility throughout his coaching career has contributed to his reputation. He has held coaching positions at numerous programs, including:
- Baylor
- Florida Atlantic
- Houston
- Florida State
- Arkansas
Griffin III played under Briles at Baylor from 2008 to 2011, where Briles served as the inside wide receivers coach and offensive recruiting coordinator before becoming the offensive coordinator in 2015.
Briles’ Coaching Philosophy
Griffin III noted Briles’ ability to adapt to different quarterback styles, stating, “Josh Hoover is not the type of quarterback that I was in college, or the type of quarterback Bryce Petty or Nick Florence were at Baylor. He just has the ability to work with different guys.”
Looking Ahead for TCU
As the TCU Horned Frogs conclude their regular season with a record of 8-4 and a 5-4 standing in the Big 12, they are preparing for their upcoming bowl game. Specific bowl destinations remain uncertain, but discussions have included the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN, and the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, LA.
This period will allow the coaching staff and players to recover and regroup after a challenging season.
