South Korea is experiencing notably low temperatures due to a blast of cold air moving southward. On Tuesday, December 2, the morning temperatures across various regions significantly dipped below typical levels.

As of 5 AM, major urban centers reported the following temperatures:

  • Seoul: 1.9°C
  • Incheon: 1.5°C
  • Suwon: 2.8°C
  • Chuncheon: -1.6°C
  • Gangneung: 5.6°C
  • Cheongju: 2.5°C
  • Daejeon: 1.3°C
  • Jeonju: 2.4°C
  • Gwangju: 3.8°C
  • Jeju: 9.7°C
  • Daegu: 5.0°C
  • Busan: 7.2°C
  • Ulsan: 5.0°C
  • Changwon: 6.3°C

Chilly Conditions Persist

The highest temperatures throughout the day are anticipated to range between 2°C and 13°C. This means that most areas will experience a chilly atmosphere, exacerbated by strong winds, which may further lower the perceived temperature.

Precipitation Forecast

During the night, some regions are expected to see rain or snow, particularly in the following areas:

  • South Chungcheong Province’s western coast and northern inland
  • North Jeolla’s western coast and southern inland
  • Jeju Island

Expected Snowfall and Rainfall

Snow accumulation is projected as follows:

  • 3 to 8 cm on the western coast of South Chungcheong and northern Jeollanam-do
  • 1 to 5 cm on the western coast of Jeollanam-do and southern inland of North Jeolla
  • Approximately 1 cm in northern inland Sejong and Chungcheong Province
  • 3 to 10 cm in the mountainous areas of Jeju

In terms of rainfall, estimates include:

  • About 5 mm in the western coastal areas of South Chungcheong, North Jeolla, and Gwangju, as well as the central inland of Jeollanam-do
  • 5 to 10 mm in Jeju Island
  • Roughly 1 mm in northern inland Sejong and South Chungcheong

Marine Conditions

Wave heights in the seas are predicted to be:

  • 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the East Sea and South Sea
  • 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the West Sea

The deep waters are expected to have wave heights of:

  • 1.0 to 4.0 meters in the East Sea
  • 1.0 to 3.0 meters in the West Sea and South Sea

Residents are advised to prepare for a chilly commute and to remain cautious of the cold weather conditions throughout the day.
