Prince William County Schools Plans 2-Hour Delay for Friday, Dec. 4

Forecasted inclement weather has prompted Prince William County Public Schools to implement a two-hour delay for all schools on Friday, December 5, 2025. This decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff during challenging weather conditions.
Details on the Two-Hour Delay
The two-hour delayed opening will affect various school operations, including:
- Classes will commence two hours later than normal.
- A.M. bus transportation will run on a two-hour delay.
- The School Age Child Care (SACC) program will open two hours late.
- A simplified breakfast will be provided, and lunch will be served.
- All field trips scheduled for the day are canceled.
Changes for Preschool Students
Preschool sessions will also adjust to the late start:
- Morning preschool students will be dismissed one hour later than usual.
- Afternoon preschool students will arrive one hour later than typical.
Guidance for Parents and Guardians
Parents and guardians are advised not to drop off students early, as staff may arrive late. If families believe road conditions are unsafe, they have the option to keep their children at home. Reported absences due to safety concerns will be marked as excused, ensuring no academic penalties, although students must make up any missed assignments.
Employee Guidelines
Staff members will follow a staggered reporting schedule:
- Employees on the teacher salary scale and less-than-250-day non-exempt employees will report for work two hours late.
- Inclement weather employees are expected to report on time.
- Food and Nutrition staff will also report for their usual time.
- Bus drivers and related staff must arrive one hour late.
- Administrators pay grade 13 and above should report one hour late or at a time directed by the Superintendent.
Employees who normally telework should follow the guidance relevant to their specific work schedule. Additionally, scheduled professional development activities may be canceled, and staff should verify their status with the corresponding department or school.
