Canadian Olympic Goalie Wedgewood Exits Avalanche Game with Upper-Body Injury

Scott Wedgewood, the Colorado Avalanche goalie, exited Tuesday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks due to an upper-body injury. His departure came in the second period. As reported by the team, he will not return to the game.

Wedgewood’s Performance Before Injury

Before his injury, Wedgewood had successfully stopped 10 of 11 shots. Mackenzie Blackwood stepped in to replace him. Wedgewood’s impressive record this season includes a 13-1 win-loss ratio, a 2.08 goals-against average, and a .920 save percentage over 18 games.

Recent Acquisition and Contract Extension

The 33-year-old goalie from Etobicoke, Ontario, was acquired from the Nashville Predators in late November of the previous season. Last year with the Avalanche, he achieved a 13-4 record, a 1.99 goals-against average, and a .917 save percentage over 19 games. Recently, Wedgewood signed a one-year contract extension worth $2.5 million.

  • Jordan Binnington (St. Louis Blues)
  • Logan Thompson (Washington Capitals)
  • Darcy Kuemper (Los Angeles Kings)
  • Jake Allen (New Jersey Devils)

Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong must finalize the 25-player roster by December 31. The Olympic tournament kicks off on February 11, 2026.
