Dallas Stars’ Tyler Seguin Sidelines for Months Due to ACL Injury

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin faces a lengthy absence due to a significant ACL injury. Coach Glen Gulutzan announced on Wednesday that Seguin could miss months, potentially the remainder of the season. This injury occurred during a recent overtime loss to the New York Rangers, where he collided with defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov and fell awkwardly.
Injury Impact on Seguin and the Stars
Seguin’s injury woes have become a major concern for the Dallas Stars. The 33-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout his career, which has limited his playing time. This season, he had a promising start, contributing seven goals and ten assists in 27 games. He recently celebrated his 1,000th NHL game milestone on October 30 in Tampa.
Despite his strong performance, Seguin’s history of injuries is troubling. Last season, he played only 20 regular-season games after undergoing hip surgery. He also missed much of the 2020-21 season due to hip and knee surgeries. In 2016, he suffered a sliced Achilles tendon that ended his season prematurely.
The Current State of Injuries on the Dallas Stars
In addition to Seguin, the Dallas Stars have been hit hard by injuries this season. Key players such as Jamie Benn, Oskar Bäck, and Matt Duchene have all missed time. As of now, the Stars have recorded 107 games lost due to injuries, ranking them eighth in the NHL for injury-related absences.
- Tyler Seguin – ACL Injury (Out for months)
- Jamie Benn – Current injury status unknown
- Oskar Bäck – Lower-body surgery, out 6-8 weeks
- Matt Duchene, Adam Erne, Lian Bichsel, Thomas Harley, Roope Hintz – All sidelined
Future Outlook
With Seguin out, Nathan Bastian will step into the lineup for the upcoming game against the New Jersey Devils. Coach Gulutzan emphasized the need for other players to increase their contributions. The team is looking for players like Mavrik Bourque to seize the opportunity to fill the void created by Seguin’s absence.
While Seguin’s contract extends through the summer of 2027, the ongoing injury challenges raise concerns about his long-term career viability. The Stars are still awaiting detailed medical updates regarding his recovery timeline and potential playoff availability.
