North Texas to Appoint Former WVU Coach Brown

Neal Brown is set to become the new head coach for North Texas, finalizing a five-year contract. The announcement comes after Eric Morris transitioned to Oklahoma State following his recent hiring by the Big 12 institution. Brown brings with him a decade of head coaching experience.
Coaching Background of Neal Brown
Previously, Brown had a successful tenure at Troy, where his record stood at 35-16. He also coached at West Virginia, finishing with a 37-35 record. His achievements include leading Troy to the Sun Belt championship in 2017 and maintaining a strong bowl game record of 5-1. Notably, he orchestrated victories over prestigious teams like LSU and Nebraska during his time at Troy.
Transition of Leadership at North Texas
- New Head Coach: Neal Brown
- Previous Head Coach: Eric Morris
- Morris’s Record: 11-1 this season
- Next Game: Tulane in the American Conference title game
Under Morris, North Texas achieved an impressive record this season. He will remain with the Mean Green through the upcoming title game, where they aim for a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Neal Brown’s Experience and Future Goals
Brown spent the previous season with Texas before taking this new role. His tenure at West Virginia ended in December 2024, following a challenging season marked by unmet expectations. With aspirations to compete for a Big 12 title and a playoff berth, West Virginia’s performance fell short, leading to his dismissal. He was succeeded by Rich Rodriguez.
This new chapter for North Texas marks a significant shift as they aim to capitalize on their successful season under Morris while integrating Brown’s extensive experience in college football.
