Aussie Legend Slater Loses Life Membership and Hall of Fame Status

Former Australian cricket player Michael Slater has lost both his life membership and his status in the Cricket NSW Hall of Fame due to recent domestic violence offenses. Slater’s status was under review after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to incidents between December 2023 and March 2024.

Domestic Violence Charges

Slater faced seven charges, including:

  • Two counts of choking
  • Stalking
  • Assault
  • Burglary

For these offenses, he received a suspended prison sentence of four years. This was not the first time he encountered legal issues, as he had previous convictions for domestic violence in 2022. Over the years, five women in New South Wales have obtained protection orders against him.

Cricket NSW Decisions

On Monday night, Slater was formally voted out of the Hall of Fame by Cricket NSW members and delegates during an ordinary general meeting. Despite submitting a written appeal to retain his life membership, the decision went against him.

Career Highlights

Michael Slater had a notable cricket career, representing Australia in:

  • 74 Test matches
  • 42 One Day Internationals (ODIs)

His international career spanned from 1993 to 2001. After retirement, Slater transitioned into commentary and broadcasting, most recently working with Seven Network until his contract was not renewed in 2021.

Induction into the Hall of Fame

Slater was inducted into the Cricket NSW Hall of Fame in 2015 and received life membership the following year. His illustrious career both on the field and in broadcasting is now overshadowed by his legal troubles and loss of prestigious honors.
