Sources Indicate Kentucky to Dismiss Coach Stoops

Kentucky is reportedly preparing to part ways with football coach Mark Stoops. Sources indicate that the formal dismissal is expected to occur soon. This decision comes after Stoops concluded his 13th season with a disappointing 5-7 record.

Kentucky Football Under Stoops

Mark Stoops, who is 58 years old, achieved an overall record of 72-80 during his tenure at Kentucky. Notably, he led the team to two successful seasons, both resulting in 10 victories, in 2018 and 2021. However, following a season marred by a 41-0 defeat against Louisville, the university decided it was time for a change.

Financial Implications

Stoops is currently earning $9 million for the 2025 season and has a contract that extends through June 2031. If dismissed, he would receive 75% of his remaining salary, amounting to approximately $37.7 million. Despite these financial considerations, the university is moving forward with the termination process.

Final Remarks from Stoops

In a post-game press conference, Stoops expressed his determination to continue. When asked about the possibility of resignation, he firmly stated, “Like, I’m going to walk away? Are you kidding me? … Zero percent chance I walk.”

The decision to dismiss Coach Stoops marks a significant moment for Kentucky football as the program seeks to realign itself after a challenging season.
