The Love Like Adam Foundation
In the wake of this tragedy, the Oakes family established the Love Like Adam Foundation, aiming to combat hazing and educate others about its dangers. This organization has since made significant strides:
- Creation of “Adam’s Law,” mandating hazing prevention training in Virginia’s colleges.
- Support for the Stop Campus Hazing Act, a federal initiative passed in December 2024.
- Production of a documentary titled “Death Of A Pledge: The Adam Oakes Story,” which aired on PBS and won an Emmy.
The foundation also provides scholarships to college students and presents to thousands of students annually to promote awareness and prevention of hazing.
