Carlos Sainz Addresses Plastic Issue as Stewards Penalize Williams in Qatar GP

Carlos Sainz recently shared insights on a challenging qualifying session for the Qatar Grand Prix. During Q3, the Spanish driver encountered difficulties due to plastic from the garage that became lodged in his rear tires. This issue arose shortly after leaving the pits, causing the plastic to disrupt his performance. Sainz noted that he struggled to eliminate the plastic during the first few turns.

He explained to Sky Sports F1, “I spent four or five corners trying to get rid of the plastic.” The plastic not only affected his tires but also reportedly damaged his car’s bodywork. His team managed a temporary fix but the exact impact on the car’s downforce remains uncertain.

Qualifying Performance

Sainz achieved a Q2 lap time of 20.2 seconds multiple times but could not improve upon it during Q3. He qualified in seventh position, sharing the grid with Fernando Alonso, who is set to start from eighth. “Happy to do the 20.2, be P7 for tomorrow, clean side of the grid and fight for the top six,” Sainz remarked as he looks forward to the race.

Race Strategy and Competitors
