Michigan, Great Lakes Snowstorm Expected to End Sunday

A significant snowstorm across Michigan and the Great Lakes region is expected to conclude on Sunday. Residents are advised to prepare for changing conditions throughout the day. Snowfall will taper off from southwest to northeast in Lower Michigan.

Snowfall Timeline for Michigan

As the storm progresses, it will begin to wind down starting in the morning hours. Here’s a brief timeline of when various regions can expect the snow to end:

  • Southwest Lower Michigan: Snow is expected to cease by 9 a.m.
  • South-Central Michigan: Anticipated end of snowfall around 10 a.m.
  • Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, and Thumb: Snow will likely stop by 11 a.m.

Lake-Effect Snow and Road Conditions

Following the main snow system, lake-effect snow bands are forecasted to develop in northern Michigan, notably around Traverse City and along Lake Michigan. This may lead to adverse weather conditions, particularly along U.S. 31.

By early afternoon, specifically after 1 p.m., the snow should largely dissipate across most areas. Temperatures in southern Michigan are projected to rise to about 32 degrees by this time.

After the snow ends, one round of plowing and salting should significantly enhance road conditions. Although temperatures will drop again around 5 p.m., the main roads are expected to be mostly clear and safe for travel later in the afternoon.

Travel Recommendations

Travelers heading to cities such as Chicago or Milwaukee can expect good conditions by late morning, as the snow will cease there early on Sunday. Ohio and Indiana are also predicted to see their precipitation stop by mid-morning, leading to improved road conditions heading south.

Total Snow Accumulation

Forecasters anticipate total snowfall across the affected areas will reach between four to seven inches by the end of this storm.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about evolving weather conditions throughout the winter season to ensure safety during travel and other outdoor activities.
