Toronto Braces for Gusty Winds Starting Wednesday

Toronto is preparing for significant weather changes as Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the city. Strong winds are expected to commence on Wednesday, with gusts reaching 70 to 80 km/h.

Weather Forecast: Gusty Winds and Temperature Drops

The weather advisory indicates that these strong southwest winds will shift to the west on Wednesday night. By Thursday afternoon or evening, the winds will turn to the northwest.

  • Wind Gusts: 70 to 80 km/h
  • Expected Duration: Wednesday to Friday morning
  • Potential Risks: Local utility outages, risks for high-sided vehicles, and loose objects being displaced

On Wednesday, Toronto will experience a high of 11°C before temperatures significantly drop. Following the passage of a weather system late Wednesday, colder polar air will move in, leading to a sharp decrease in temperatures.

Impact of Cold Weather and Snow

Bill Coulter, a meteorologist at CP24, noted that the colder air will activate the lake effect snow system, particularly affecting areas known for traditional snow belts. Snow squalls and flurries are expected to persist into Thursday.

  • Thursday High: 2°C
  • Friday High: 1°C with a 60% chance of flurries

The forecast for Saturday and Sunday shows continued cloudy conditions. Daytime highs are predicted to be -1°C on Saturday and 2°C on Sunday.
