The Department of the Interior has announced a major overhaul of national park access, set to launch on January 1, 2026. This modernization aims to enhance affordability and accessibility for American families while improving overall efficiency.
Key Features of the Modernized National Park Access
The updated system includes several significant enhancements:
- Digital America the Beautiful Passes: Passes will be available in a fully digital format through Recreation.gov, allowing instant purchase and use.
- Updated Pass Artwork: New, patriotic graphics will adorn both digital and physical versions of the Annual Pass.
- Expanded Motorcycle Access: Each America the Beautiful pass will now cover two motorcycles, increasing accessibility for riders.
- America-First Fee Policies: U.S. residents will enjoy lower rates compared to non-residents, reinforcing support for American taxpayers.
Pass Pricing Structure
Beginning January 1, 2026, the pricing for the Annual Pass will be as follows:
- U.S. Residents: $80
- Non-Residents: $250
- Additional Fees: Non-residents without an Annual Pass will incur a $100 entry fee at 11 highly visited national parks.
Patriotic Fee-Free Days for Residents
The Department has also announced several fee-free days specifically for U.S. residents in 2026:
- President’s Day: February 16
- Memorial Day: May 25
- Flag Day/President Trump’s Birthday: June 14
- Independence Day Weekend: July 3–5
- 110th Birthday of the National Park Service: August 25
- Constitution Day: September 17
- Theodore Roosevelt’s Birthday: October 27
- Veteran’s Day: November 11
Investment in National Parks
Revenue generated from these new fees will be reinvested into national parks. This funding will support upgrades to visitor facilities, essential maintenance, and improved services across the park system.
