Blue Jays Explore Trade for All-Star Second Baseman Marte

The Toronto Blue Jays are actively seeking to strengthen their roster following a successful season that culminated in their first World Series appearance in over three decades. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the team is currently exploring trade options to acquire All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Blue Jays’ Interest in Ketel Marte
Morosi reported that the Blue Jays have “checked in” on Marte, suggesting there is at least a 50-50 chance he could be traded. The Diamondbacks are reportedly open to offers for the 32-year-old infielder.
Marte’s Background and Performance
Ketel Marte has made a name for himself in Major League Baseball. He signed a six-year contract extension worth $116 million with Arizona in April 2023. This agreement includes a player option that extends to the 2031 season.
Last season, Marte played 126 games and had an impressive performance, posting a .283 batting average with a .376 on-base percentage and a .517 slugging percentage. He recorded 136 hits, 28 doubles, and 28 home runs, contributing 72 runs batted in (RBI) to his team’s efforts.

Marte’s Career Journey
A native of Nizao, Dominican Republic, Marte has spent eight seasons with the Diamondbacks. He was acquired in a notable trade in 2017, where he, along with Taijuan Walker, was sent from the Seattle Mariners to Arizona in exchange for Mitch Haniger, Jean Segura, and Zac Martin.
As the Blue Jays explore trade options, acquiring a player of Marte’s caliber could significantly enhance their lineup for the upcoming season. With the Diamondbacks open to discussions, Toronto’s leadership appears committed to making impactful moves in the offseason.
