Brees, Rivers Headline 2026 Hall of Fame Semifinalists List

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced its semifinalists for the Class of 2026, featuring notable players in their first year of eligibility. Quarterbacks Drew Brees and Philip Rivers lead this distinguished group, which includes wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, tight end Jason Witten, and running back Frank Gore. In total, 26 modern era candidates have entered this phase of the selection process.

Notable Semifinalists for 2026 Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s selection committee, comprising 50 members, conducted voting to determine which candidates would progress to the semifinal stage. The committee will then narrow the candidates down to 15 finalists, who will be voted on ahead of the Super Bowl in February.

Additionally, defensive lineman Kevin Williams and offensive lineman Lomas Brown also progressed to the semifinal stage for the first time.

A Strong Class of Candidates

Other notable semifinalists include Hines Ward, Richmond Webb, Steve Wisniewski, Rodney Harrison, Earl Thomas, Vince Wilfork, and Robert Mathis. The selection process will also include consideration for three seniors, one coach, and one contributor. Between four to eight new members will be elected for the Hall of Fame this year.

  • Drew Brees: Second all-time in passing yards (80,358) and touchdowns (571). Won Super Bowl MVP in 2010.
  • Philip Rivers: Seventh in all-time passing with 63,440 yards. Named AP Comeback Player of the Year in 2013.
  • Larry Fitzgerald: Second all-time in receptions (1,432) and receiving yards (17,492). Key player in the Cardinals’ Super Bowl run.
  • Jason Witten: Second in tight end receptions (1,228) and yards (13,046). Two-time All-Pro selection.
  • Frank Gore: Third all-time in rushing yards (16,000) with nine 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

This year’s semifinalists present a robust mix of talent, exemplifying the diverse skills that have made each of these players a standout in the league.

Next Steps in the Selection Process

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will continue its evaluation to determine the final 15 candidates. Announcements will occur leading up to the Super Bowl, showcasing the essential contributions these players made to the game.
