Lorry-Car Crash Causes 10-Mile Delays on Motorway

Traffic congestion has reached 10 miles on the M20 due to a serious multi-vehicle collision. The incident has prompted a significant emergency response involving multiple services.
Incident Details
The London-bound lanes of the M20 are closed between Junction 9 for Ashford and Junction 8 for Maidstone. The crash, which occurred shortly after 8:30 AM, involved a lorry and several other vehicles. As a result, an air ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
Emergency Response
- At least 10 ambulances were deployed.
- Six police cars responded to the situation.
- Eleven fire vehicles were also present at the location.
The air ambulance took off shortly before 10 AM, and the coastbound carriageway was temporarily closed to facilitate its departure. It has since been reopened.
Traffic Diversions
Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol. The recommended detour is as follows:
- Exit the M20 at Junction 9.
- Take the first exit toward Ashford/Canterbury.
- At the next roundabout, take the third exit onto the A20.
- Travel approximately 14 miles, passing through Charing, Lenham, and Harrietsham.
- Rejoin the M20 westbound at Junction 8.

National Highways has advised motorists to allow extra time for their journeys and to consider alternate routes if possible. A police spokesman labeled the incident as a “serious collision.”
