Lawyer Reveals Rs 95 Lakh Tuition Fee for Karisma Kapoor’s Daughter

The recent proceedings in the inheritance dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s estate have captured significant attention. The Delhi High Court is currently evaluating the claims surrounding Sunjay Kapur’s will, particularly those made by Karisma Kapoor’s children and Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s wife.
Background of the Legal Battle
This legal confrontation involves the division of Sunjay Kapur’s substantial estate, estimated at Rs 30,000 crore. Allegations have emerged that Priya Kapur forged the will, leading Karisma’s children to file a plea in court.
Tuition Fee Dispute
A critical point of contention has been the payment of university fees for Karisma Kapoor’s children. In a recent hearing, it was claimed that two months of fees were unpaid, which prompted the court to remind both parties of the need for decorum. Priya Kapur’s lawyer, Sheyl Trehan, countered these allegations by presenting a receipt for Rs 95 lakh per semester, confirming that the payment had been made. She clarified that the next installment for the second semester is due in December.
Authentication of the Will
As the hearings progressed, the court delved into the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur’s will. The defense provided a thorough account of the will’s creation, utilizing documentation that included screenshots, file histories, and metadata. Nitin Sharma, the attorney involved, presented his laptop to the court to verify the details. He shared that Sunjay reviewed the draft on March 10, 2025, with the final version completed by March 17, 2025.
Evidence Presented
- The timeline of edits corroborated the children’s admission regarding Sunjay’s visit to Delhi on the same day.
- Travel records and logs matched the metadata, reinforcing the credibility of the will’s creation process.
- Both witnesses reaffirmed the authenticity of the signature, which had previously been used to secure benefits from the RK Family Trust.
New assertions claim that the will’s signature may not be genuine. However, the defense dismissed this, emphasizing that the signature had been consistently used for significant transactions prior to the will dispute. Furthermore, it was noted that the will’s non-registration does not invalidate it under Indian law, as probate is not required in Delhi.
Financial Responsibility Post-Sunjay Kapur’s Passing
The defense underscored Priya Kapur’s financial commitment to her children, stating that she had spent over Rs 1 crore on their education and welfare since Sunjay’s death. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar illustrated that it is customary for husbands to ensure their wives benefit from their assets, referencing familial traditions in such matters.
Amid this legal turmoil, Karisma Kapoor has renewed her residential lease in Mumbai’s Bandra West for Rs 66.12 lakh for a year. This renewal comes as a part of her ongoing efforts to maintain stability during the proceedings.
