Key Features of the JFK Airport Construction Project
The most notable aspect of the transformation is Terminal One, which represents a $9.5 billion investment. Set to replace the former Terminal 1, 2, and 3, it will be unveiled in phases starting in 2026, with full completion expected by 2030. Upon finalization, Terminal One will become the largest standalone terminal in the country, featuring:

- 2.6 million square feet of space

As of October 2025, a new permanent roadway system has been established for Terminals 5 and 7. Travelers are advised to be aware of their terminal in advance, as routes have changed. The following are essential traffic updates:
- Terminal 8 now requires access via the JFK Expressway, with clear signage available.
- Terminal 4 is only accessible via the Van Wyck Expressway.

Travelers are encouraged to plan their journeys carefully, especially during peak holiday periods. Recommended timing includes:
- Arriving two hours early for domestic flights
- Arriving three hours early for international flights
Extra buffer time is advisable due to construction-related delays. Alternatively, using public transit can offer a smoother experience. Options include:
- Subway lines A to Howard Beach and E, J, and Z to Jamaica.
- Long Island Railroad services to Jamaica from major city stations.
