U.S. Plans Leaflet Campaign to Intensify Pressure on Venezuela’s Maduro

In an effort to intensify pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the U.S. is considering a leaflet campaign targeting Caracas. During discussions on Saturday, officials from the Trump administration explored various strategies to weaken Maduro’s regime, including the idea of dropping leaflets as a form of psychological warfare.

Key Details of the Planned Leaflet Campaign

The potential operation is reportedly linked to Maduro’s 63rd birthday. While the plan has not been authorized, it reflects escalating U.S. actions against the Venezuelan government.

Background of U.S. Pressure on Venezuela

Over recent months, U.S. pressure on Maduro has increased significantly. This includes:

  • A military buildup in the region.
  • Live fire exercises.
  • Strikes on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.

President Trump has not ruled out further military intervention, stating, “I don’t rule out anything. We just have to take care of Venezuela.” Conversely, Maduro has expressed willingness for direct discussions with Trump.

U.S. Military Operations Overview

Details emerged regarding recent U.S. military operations aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks:

  • The Pentagon has conducted at least 21 strikes since early September.
  • These operations have resulted in around 80 casualties.
  • Approximately 15,000 U.S. troops are currently present in the region.

A Navy official confirmed that the U.S. military has four ships in the Atlantic, including the USS Gerald R. Ford, along with seven additional vessels in the Caribbean.

International Recognition and Response

Maduro, who has been in power since 2013, has faced international condemnation following his contested victory in the July 2024 presidential elections. The U.S. is among the nations that do not acknowledge his presidency. The Trump administration has also accused him of leading a drug cartel, announcing a $50 million reward for information that could lead to his arrest.

This unfolding situation highlights the ongoing geopolitical tension surrounding Venezuela, with both military and diplomatic maneuvers being employed by the U.S.
