Thailand Warns of Severe Monsoon and Flood Threat in South

Thailand is bracing for severe weather conditions as the Meteorological Department (TMD) issues important warnings regarding the ongoing monsoon and flooding threats in the southern region.
Severe Monsoon and Flood Threat in Southern Thailand
On November 20-23, southern Thailand is predicted to experience substantial rainfall. This alarming weather is due to a robust northeasterly monsoon influencing the Gulf of Thailand, southern provinces, and the Andaman Sea.
Key Weather Conditions
- Widespread heavy to very heavy rain expected.
- High waves are likely along the coast.
- A low-pressure cell is forming over the lower Gulf and southern region.
Besides the southern troubles, issues are also arising in upper Thailand where temperatures are dropping due to a cold snap. The TMD’s Warning No. 12 (351/2568) forecasts cold weather, impacting northern and northeastern regions beginning on November 20-21.
Cold Weather and Health Precautions
- Temperatures in the North and Northeast could decrease by 1-2°C.
- Cool and windy conditions are expected in Central Thailand and Bangkok.
- Public health awareness is advised due to potential fire hazards from dry conditions.
As cold affects mountainous and highland areas, authorities urge farmers to safeguard crops and livestock from this severe weather.
Forecast Ahead
Following the heavy rains, temperatures in upper Thailand are expected to rise from November 22-23. However, the North and Northeast will still remain chilly. Residents are reminded to remain cautious, especially when driving in areas susceptible to fog.
