Auburn University celebrated Senior Day by honoring running back Brian Battie, who faced significant challenges in the past year. The event took place on November 22, 2024, during a home game against Mercer at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Brian Battie’s Journey
Brian Battie has shown remarkable resilience after suffering a traumatic brain injury. This injury occurred during a tragic event that led to the death of his brother, Tommie Battie IV, in May 2024. The siblings were from Sarasota, Florida, where the shooting took place on May 18. Tommie was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene due to a single gunshot wound.
Health Recovery
Following the incident, Brian Battie was hospitalized and underwent surgery that night. He spent time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was discharged on June 15, 2024. Almost a month later, Battie was able to walk using a cane, marking a significant milestone in his recovery.
Auburn Football Career
Despite the challenges, Battie made his presence felt in Auburn football. He played for the team during the 2023 season, participating in all 13 games. Over the course of the season, he accumulated:
- 227 rushing yards
- One rushing touchdown
- 51 carries
Although his playing career faced an abrupt halt due to his injury, Battie has remained connected to the Auburn football program. He notably attended last year’s Iron Bowl and other significant events, embodying the spirit of perseverance.

During Senior Day festivities, fans and teammates gave Brian Battie a warm ovation, recognizing his journey and contributions to the team. His story serves as an inspiration not just to athletes but to everyone facing adversity.
