Bears’ Key Linebackers Edmunds, Edwards, Sewell Miss Steelers Clash

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a crucial matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday but will be without their entire starting linebacker unit. Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards, and Noah Sewell have all been ruled out following a week of unproductive practice sessions.
Bears’ Linebackers Missing in Action
T.J. Edwards is currently recovering from hand surgery and is also managing a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Tremaine Edmunds sustained a groin injury late in the fourth quarter during Chicago’s narrow 19-17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Noah Sewell, who led the team in tackles, also suffered an elbow injury in the same game.
Reserves Stepping Up
With the starting linebacker trio sidelined, the Bears will rely on backup players to fill the gaps. Key reserves include:
- D’Marco Jackson
- Ruben Hyppolite II (rookie)
These two players have collectively participated in only 50 defensive snaps this season. The Bears also signed linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin to their practice squad from the Detroit Lions this week. He has yet to see game action this season. Additionally, Amen Ogbongbemiga has solely contributed on special teams since returning from injured reserve.
Injury Reports and Player Updates
The Bears’ injury report extends beyond the linebackers. Both left tackle Theo Benedet and safety Jaquan Brisker are listed as questionable for Week 12. Benedet was a full participant in practice on Wednesday but was downgraded to limited participation for Thursday and Friday. In contrast, Brisker practiced fully on both Thursday and Friday.
Cornerbacks’ Status
Cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon remain on injured reserve but participated fully in practice on Friday, raising hopes they could return in time for the Steelers clash. The Bears have until December 5 to activate Johnson and until December 10 for Gordon.
This game marks a significant challenge for the Bears as they navigate injuries while trying to maintain their competitive edge against the Steelers.
