OHL Suspends Dragusica for Season After Head Slash Incident

The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has announced the suspension of Luke Dragusica, a player for the Brampton Steelheads, for the remainder of the current season following a serious incident. This decision came after Dragusica swung his stick at the head of an opposing player during a recent game.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place on November 14, during a match against the Oshawa Generals. With just 2:11 left in the third period, Dragusica received a match penalty for slashing. The victim of the attack was Generals defenceman Brady Blaseg, who suffered a cut from the slash and required on-ice medical attention. Although Blaseg managed to leave the ice unaided, he did not return to play for the remainder of the game.

Consequences of the Suspension

The OHL suspended Dragusica following a comprehensive review conducted by the Department of Player Safety. This review included:

  • Video analysis of the incident
  • Game reports from the officials
  • Interviews with involved parties

This thorough examination concluded that Dragusica’s actions were not only reckless but also representative of a dangerous conduct that is wholly unacceptable in the league. As part of his suspension, Dragusica will need to fulfill several requirements before he can consider returning to play.

Reinstatement Requirements

To be eligible for reinstatement in the 2026–27 season, Dragusica must:

  • Complete a league-mandated education program
  • Participate in counseling
  • Perform community service
  • Appear before a Reinstatement Panel

The OHL emphasizes the importance of player safety and the responsibility of all players to maintain sportsmanship and respect on the ice.
