Fox News Poll: Voters Say White House Harms Economy More Than It Helps

Recent findings from a Fox News Poll reveal that voters overwhelmingly perceive the current economic situation as detrimental. A significant 76% of respondents expressed negativity towards the economy, a noticeable increase from previous surveys. In July, 67% reported an unfavorable view, while 70% felt similarly at the close of former President Biden’s administration.

Voter Sentiment on Economic Issues

A majority of voters are feeling the strain of rising living costs this year. Key statistics include:

  • 78% reported increased expenses for utilities.
  • 67% indicated healthcare costs have risen.
  • 66% noted higher housing expenses.
  • 54% experienced a spike in gasoline prices.
  • 85% reported higher grocery costs, with 60% identifying substantial increases.

Notably, assessments of personal finances reveal that only 40% rate their economic situation as excellent or good, while 60% categorize their finances as fair or poor. Among individuals with household incomes below $50,000, 79% reported negative assessments of their finances.

Perceptions of Leadership Responsibility

Blame for economic struggles seems to be directed more towards President Trump than President Biden. Voters attribute 62% of the current economic dissatisfaction to Trump, while only 32% hold Biden accountable. This points to a striking partisan divide in perceptions:

  • 53% of Democrats blame Trump.
  • 42% of Republicans also hold Trump responsible.
  • Among independents, 62% attribute current economic woes to Trump.

Historically, Trump’s approval ratings have hit record lows. Recently, only 41% of voters expressed approval of his performance, compared to 58% who disapproved.

Partisan Perspectives on Policy

Voter opinions showcase a division in expectations regarding party policies. Many believe the Republicans have more effective plans concerning border security and crime. Conversely, Democrats are viewed as having better solutions for healthcare, affordability, and wage increases.

Impact of Government Shutdown

Public sentiment regarding the recent government shutdown reflects dissatisfaction across party lines. Approval ratings for congressional leaders have drastically declined, with nearly two-thirds of respondents disapproving of how both Republicans and Democrats managed the shutdown. Voters indicated that the situation imposed severe or moderate hardships for 45% of families, while over half felt no impact at all.

With similar approval ratings hovering around 39% for both major parties, it appears that public trust in political leadership is dwindling. Trump’s job ratings specifically have sunk to a low 38% regarding economic issues.

Concerns About Government Effectiveness

A looming concern among voters is the perceived failure of governmental branches to uphold their constitutional responsibilities. Approximately 64% of respondents expressed worries about Congress, while 63% had similar concerns about the Supreme Court. Many feel that these institutions are allowing too much power to rest with the presidency.

This Fox News Poll was conducted from November 14 to 17, 2025, surveying a sample of 1,005 registered voters. The margin of error for the overall sample is ±3 percentage points, with variations for subgroups.
