Heavy Snow Forces Hexham to Cancel Wednesday Racing Card

Hexham’s scheduled races for Wednesday have been canceled due to unexpected heavy snowfall, rendering the track unraceable. The Northumberland venue was set to host a six-race event, but an early inspection revealed conditions were not suitable for racing.

Details of the Cancellation

The scrutiny of the track occurred at 8 AM, following a notable shift in weather during the night. Initially, 5mm of rain fell, but it was soon replaced by snow accumulation.

Conditions on the Track

Track officials assessed the snow and confirmed it was unfit for racing. With temperatures hovering around 0°C, forecasted rises to just 1°C or 2°C were insufficient to melt the snow before the event.

  • Approximately three inches of snow were reported on the track.
  • Safety of the spectators was a significant consideration in the cancellation.
  • The clerk of the course, James Armstrong, indicated optimism prior to the weather change.

Future Events at Hexham

Hexham is scheduled for one more meeting this year before its annual hiatus, lasting until March. Armstrong expressed hopes that weather conditions would improve in the future.

Current Racing Conditions in Britain

Besides Hexham, other racing events continue across Britain. Conditions remain varied:

  • Warwick: Soft, good to soft in places.
  • Ffos Las: Soft, heavy in areas.

Two all-weather meetings are also taking place at Kempton and Dundalk in Ireland, providing racing fans with alternative options.
